On Wednesday, 21 January 2026, we signed a funding agreement for the research, development, and innovation (RDI) dual-use project MODEL2 – Resilient Militarised Living Modules for Deployable Bases. The agreement was signed at the presentation of the achievements of two pillars of the national security system of the Republic of Slovenia, held at Brdo pri Kranju, by the Minister of Defence, Mr Borut Sajovic, MSc, and our Director, Mr Igor Kastelic.
The project aims to develop a new generation of smart, energy self-sufficient, and resilient modular facilities for deployable bases, with dual use, meaning they are also suitable for civilian scenarios such as natural disasters, temporary accommodation, and medical facilities.
Over the next 36 months, together with our partners, we will develop and demonstrate an integrated solution that includes:
MODEL2 represents a significant step forward from traditional “container-based” solutions toward smart, sustainable, and robust modules that integrate construction, energy systems, and digital technologies, while also strengthening the Slovenian industry in the field of advanced defence and dual-use solutions.
In the project, REM acts as the technology integrator, and the following partners are also involved:
We are looking forward to the development, testing and final demonstration of the system in a real-world environment.
